Pioneer of pizza in Britain places £1.15 million Lancashire home on the market
Wendy Allen isn’t a household name but along with her brother, Pizza Express founder Peter Boizot MBE, she can be credited with widening the market for pizza in Britain.
Allen opened her restaurant, Pizza Margherita in Lancaster, in 1979 and also had a career as an assistant chief probation officer and family and marital therapist. She was also the agony aunt for the Liverpool Echo for 18 years and has lived at Holmere Bank at Yealand Conyers in Lancashire since 1968.
Designed by the renowned Kendal-based architect George Webster (1797 – 1864), the Grade II listed Georgian house is now for sale with Davis & Bowring for £1,150,000. It includes a total of 6,279 square foot of accommodation with 5 reception rooms, 5 bedrooms and a 2-bedroom guest wing and is described as having “very nicely proportioned rooms and authentic period details”.
