Matthew Steeples suggests that Brendan O’Neill’s mocking attack on alleged victims of Westminster VIP abusers as a ‘paedophile panic’ in ‘The Spectator’ is nothing but a disgrace
On Tuesday, in The Spectator, a journalist named Brendan O’Neill stupidly claimed “Harvey Proctor has done us all a favour” and suggested what he ridiculously termed “the paedophile panic” has “more than a hint of homophobia to it”.
In the article, which has attracted over 250 mostly negative comments, O’Neill went on to suggest that the investigation into VIP abuse was about nothing but “bash[ing] gays, finger-point[ing] at the political classes … [and] pursu[ing] some other ugly moralistic agenda”. He mockingly termed the matter “hysteria” and “a full-on conspiracy theory” and went as far to refer to this as “social madness” and “half-baked”. Plainly, to his mind, not one of those accused could be in any way guilty and whilst some allegations will without doubt flounder, many will not. Decent men like Labour’s Simon Danczuk MP and the Conservative wannabe-Mayor of London Zac Goldsmith MP also would simply not support the numerous victims without first seeking out proof and unsurprisingly, he failed to mention that.
O’Neill, no doubt, would have taken the same attitude when he was told of claims against other since convicted abusers such as Max Clifford, Stuart Hall and Rolf Harris. None of them were gay and though they claimed a “witch hunt” also, they were rightly brought to justice. It is now time for the course of justice to run in regard to claims of what went on amongst Westminster’s VIP elite and that Brendan O’Neill wants this stopped is nothing but a disgrace. Shame on him and his tawdry article: May it one day come back to haunt him.

One has to ask where did all of these children who were abused come from? As we now know they were the most vulnerable in our society and mainly in the care of the State. How did they get there is another topic. Jimmy Saville made a be line for the orphans knowing there was no protective mother or father to stand in his way.The peodophile men who work for the State (The establishment) then went on to claim these poor children as their own knowing they had the power to silence any victim. That has been the case for many years but as the truth has a habit of showing itself, it is now coming to the fore. I think anyone who has the opinions of this O’Neil guy should not only not write about them but keep them firmly to themselves and have respect for the victims. I am a woman who never thought any human being could ever harm a child sexually in my little naïve innocent world that I was brought up in, but I have since realised peodophilia is a very complex affliction with most peodophiles living quite normal parallel lives. We are not at all anti gay, we are anti peodophile because it is against the law to have sex with children. When it becomes the law (which I hope to god this will never happen certainly not in my life time or my children’s children’s children’s children lifetimes) then we can all chose whether we want to participate or not! I had a charmed and very safe childhood. My father was a lovely man in every aspect. It is still haunting to think men (and some women) really can sexually abuse children. I am behind the survivors in this one and the surviving as there are children today actually trying to survive their own horror as we are reading this.
Take your righteous indignation to another site that has use for it, Victoria. (MumsNet or LabourParty for example.) Your overt homophobia is disgusting. Get therapy or get off the internet.
