Frederiksen Collection of superb classic cars sells for £16 million against pre-sale estimate of £25 million
On Saturday, one of the finest car collections in the world was sold in Denmark and unlike many other sales in recent weeks, 92% of the 48 lots sold and a total of over £16 million ($24 million) was achieved.
Amongst the lots from the Frederiksen Collection to be hammered down was the one-off 1973 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI by the Maserati designer Pietro Frua previously featured on these pages. It achieved an impressive £360,000 against a guide of just £200,000 to £250,000 ($310,000 to $388,000) whilst another star was a 1939 Lagonda LG6 Rapide that smashed its pre-sale estimate of £300,000 to £370,000 ($460,000 to $560,000) and sold for £540,000 ($730000).
Another big achiever came in the form of a 1930 Dusenberg Model J ‘Disappearing Top’ roadster. It sold for £1.76 million ($1.98 million) against a guide of £1.7 million to £2.1 million ($2.6 million to $3.1 million) and became “the most valuable car ever sold at auction in Denmark” according to Bonhams.
Though many estimated the sale would achieve £25 million ($38 million), Henrik Frederiksen was quite happy with the outcome. Of it, he remarked:
“I’m absolutely delighted, Bonhams has done an incredible job. I now have to say goodbye to my wonderful cars, but I couldn’t be happier as I know each will bring joy to their new owner. It’s quite astounding how many people turned out for the day, plus so many people bidding from across the world”.

I am still learning this tricky language; but is it Bonham’s have – or Bonham’s has?
The Frau Roller – geddit – compares favourably with, or is it to, a provincial ex Council house, and the Duisenberg with or to a Word’s End Council flat
What a gorgeous Rolls
The legend is that a gentleman should never be seen in a Rolls unless he is its chauffeur
Cute! …and calming to the soul to surround oneself by beauty – what a clever thing to collect. Am happy for Mr Frederiksen.
Evokes fond memories…much…of spending foremost of childhood squashed in the back seat with Kaiser, our great dane, slobbering on me in my father’s 1934 *yellow* Railton (akin to blue car above).
When I am super-rich I should buy my father one of these cited above! Sigh.
