Photograph of a great tit posing for a camera manned by a red squirrel shows the sporting spirit and resilience of both
Taken by Vadim Trunov in a forest in the Voronezh region of Russia and first shared by The Telegraph, our Picture of the Week shows a great tit posing with a red squirrel with a camera.
Here in Britain, the native red squirrel continues to face an uncertain future. The introduction of the American grey in 1876 has dramatically reduced their numbers – with just 10,000 to 15,000 left in the UK as opposed to over 2.5 million greys – but now, primarily in Scotland and the north of England, conservationists have introduced preservation measures to aid their survival.
