Show some mercy Theresa Scrooge

Section:

Before you settle down to Christmas lunch, help support a 92-year old facing forced removal from the arms of her family in the UK

Today, many will spend Christmas Day in the company of their elderly relatives. For 66-year old Poole, Dorset resident Mary Wills, however, this could be one of the last she gets to spend with her mother, Myrtle Cothill, as the 92-year old faces forced deportation to her native South Africa despite having heart problems, loss of sight in one eye and no family in her native land.

Show some mercy Theresa Scrooge - Change.org petition to support 92-year old Myrtle Cothill remaining in the UK
Show some mercy Theresa Scrooge – Some 50,000 people have signed a petition that seeks to encourage Home Secretary Theresa May “to grant Myrtle Cothill leave to remain in the UK”

Cothill, whom has been cared for in the UK by her only daughter since February 2014, was born under the British flag in 1924, her father fought for the country in the First World War and her brother in the Second. She is said to be financially independent with a pension of £300 per month yet was sent letters by Capita – a private firm that deals with those who outstay visas – informing her to make immediate plans to leave the country.

In response to immigration enforcement officials also instructing Mrs Cothill to sign in at Bournemouth police station on 6th January 2016, former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe described the situation as “heartless in the extreme”. She added: “On this occasion the rule book has proved a brutal master instead of a useful servant”.

A petition has been started on Change.org urging Theresa May “to grant Myrtle Cothill leave to remain in the UK” and we urge readers to click here to sign it. A civilised society treats its elderly with respect and today it is time that our Scrooge-like Home Secretary showed some.

    1. Theresa May – A woman too busy drinking champagne with (Lady) Catherine Meyer and buying shoes to care about 92 year old ladies. I’m ashamed to be British having read this. It certainly isn’t a Happy Christmas for Myrtle and her family.

    2. Capita is a nasty, greedy company. Maybe if she had committed some crime she could have refused to be deported. James Brokenshire is responsible for this mess. A useless man: he was once my solicitor. Did nothing and his firm ripped us off.
Capita needs to be broken up and the work they do repatriated to those lazy councils who allowed their functions ti be taken over.
The UK is now run by those who are either not English, or despise what we stand for….and worse, we put up with it. I go to Japan from time to time. Being Japanese is something they esteem.

    3. Time to be blunt…
The vast majority of those who work for Crapita and the UK Immigration service are NOT English. They are nominally British, but with roots mainly in our ex colonies. Bullying someone like Mrs Cothill gives them enormous satisfaction; their chance to show, “we are the masters now”.
We should, as a nation, be ashamed of the way we have allowed ourselves to become victims.
We should be even more ashamed of ever allowing a self absorbed weakling like Cameron to govern us.
None of the promises he makes are ever meant to be kept.
If he had any balls he would publicly override those bullying this lady whose family valiantly served our country in its hour of need.
There is something very special about a people who built one of the greatest Empire’s the world has ever seen, and monopolised most of the great inventions and innovations.
To use that expression I abhor we should ‘celebrate’ ourselves as being a fair and compassionate people.
Not many countries would allow their hospitality to be abused as we do.

My wife is Japanese and cannot believe how we have allowed ourselves to be belittled by newcomers.
When I asked her why I had not seen a single mosque in Japan she answered with a look of amazement, ” we don’t let them in’.
We could learn a lot from the Japanese….
