Picture of the Week – A Coked Contest

Section:

‘Stop Brexit’ Steve Bray amusingly mocks Michael Gove’s bid to become leader of the Conservative Party; ‘Brexit’ is named ‘Children’s Year of the Word’

With the especially angry columnist Melanie Philips unsurprisingly rounding on Michael Gove over his cocaine taking and The Times Diary mocking him over his choice of the notorious binger on such powder Mick Fleetwood’s Don’t Stop as his leadership launch theme tune, one would think it couldn’t get worse for Michael Gove.

Our Picture of the Week, which features the devoted anti-Brexit campaigner Steve Bray in Westminster, however, mocks Gove further. In it, Bray crouches on a damp pavement with his now famous ‘BREXIT IS DEMOCRAZY’ and ‘REVOKE ARTICLE 50’ placards and points to a line of white powder and an upturned Diet Coca Cola can. Posted to Instagram, accompanied by the caption: “Oh dear! #ToryDrugOff #ToryLeadershipContest #SODEM,” the image perfectly surmises where Gove’s bid is headed – and that simply will only be to the depths of the gutter.

Elsewhere and today named as Oxford University Press’s ‘Children’s Word of the Year’ (for surprisingly supposedly inspiring the youth of today to pen all sorts of things in all sorts of mediums)  also, ‘Brexit’ is what will naturally define the Conservative leadership contest. What is wrong, however, is that the Tories have not a single candidate prepared to stand up for the half of the country that voted ‘Remain’ (but instead have opted for a list of runners that consists of a bunch of making-excuses-for-their-past indiscretions drug takers).

On the basis presently before us, these charlatans most certainly deservedly will send their once great party towards electoral oblivion and our country, sadly, to the ultimate danger of a ‘no deal.’ Shame on the lot of them.

  1. As #endthechaos rightly point out “In any analysis of changing opinion, it is important first to go back to square one and recall what fractionally more than half of those who did vote had actually put an “X” beside. They did not, just for a start, vote to Leave the EU with no-deal. They did not vote to Leave the EU prepared – in the words of the late John F Kennedy – “to pay any price, bear any burden…” They voted simply to Leave the EU, having been led to believe that it would be in their best interests to do so.”
Britain is embarking on something that has an uncertain future, The hyped up South Korean deal, supposedly new stuff for trade, was already part of EU agreements and the fresh post Brexit UK deal one is actually worse and more expensive . Just wait for the anger of the public once the prices rise and Brexit looks like the bad deal they did not expect.
