What has become of the former entertainer Michael Barrymore?
Shamed television personality Michael Barrymore has reinvented himself. In Prince Charles like fashion, the former Strike it Lucky star has begun a new career talking to plants at a garden centre in Brentwood, Essex.
In pictures published in today’s Daily Mirror, Barrymore is shown clutching bottles of Roundup weedkiller. Twice arrested on suspicion of the murder Stuart Lubbock (a man who was found dead in the entertainer’s swimming pool in 2001) but never charged, Barrymore looks a little sheepish in the image. We’re not surprised. The caption beneath the weedkiller reads: “Kills the roots… So weeds never come back”.
How very apt. We’re sure Mr Barrymore, whom we’ve also spotted in the Kings Road Byron restaurant, would very much like it if talk of the events of that particular night were indeed to disappear.

Oh dear. Very sad really. The ‘celebrity’ moniker attached to so many people by the media is a poisoned chalice. It gives them a false sense of being Teflon-coated.. To change slightly the subject, I was apoplectic listening to Radio 4’s Great Lives hosted by Matthew Parris last week, when the subject matter was the Florence Nighingale. He referred to her ‘celebrity’ and even started a panel discussion exploring her sex life.
For God’s sake – where is the respect for yesteryear’s true heroes ?
