Apple need to return to producing quality products
Today, I’ve experienced surprisingly fine customer service courtesy of Peter Jones and Carphone Warehouse and been subjected to two examples of poorly made technological goods courtesy of Apple.
I have been brought up with Apple products. My first computer as a child was an Apple and I’ve never owned any other brand of laptop personally in the last ten years. I’ve been a devotee of the iPhone and considered Steve Jobs a technological hero. His passing has made the world poorer but with his illness and subsequent death, a marked decline in standards has set in at Apple.
Of course, mistakes happen in any company but mistakes should be corrected quickly. Aston Martin’s flop with their disastrous foray into the super-mini car sector with the Cygnet is a fine example. The car maker saw sense and rectified the problem. They scrapped this pointless vehicle.
Since owning my latest MacBook Pro – bought in summer 2012 – I’ve had four power plugs. Today, thanks to the excellent customer service offered at Peter Jones, I acquired my fifth. The quality of these items is plainly so low that they disintegrate in such a short period and burn out at the connection between the box and the cable.
I am not alone in my frustrations and on posting about this on Facebook I received no less than six complaints from others about these defective items. Priced at £65, they don’t come cheap and frankly this racket has stop. Apple should take heed and manufacture power adapters with better quality cabling and connections.
On a second note, I returned a defective telephone to Carphone Warehouse this afternoon also. Similarly, I can report that this mobile telephone company’s customer service relating to an item less than a year old was excellent but once again the manufacturer needs to up their game.
Quality has always been the hallmark of Apple. The company should keep this in mind and not allow the rot to set in.

I have being a loyal Apple customer since late 80’s and have advocated Apple products since them. I am also very frustrated with the power cords quality. I have bought about 6 units since I started using the MacBook Pro. As described here, there is no excuse for Apple not to fix this problem, unless they have found a new way to profit…selling disposable products.
