Republic.org.uk are wrong to attack the travel arrangements of The Prince of Wales
In an image already shared by 1,280 on Facebook, a shameful organisation named the Republic Campaign attacked the travel arrangements of Prince Charles and his wife. We think their comments preposterous and thus make them our Wallies of the Week.
In the post, Republic state:
“In 2011, Charles and Camilla charged the taxpayer £30,000 for a return flight from Clarence House to Balmoral for a private break with no public engagements”.
“Their excuse? Clarence House said that because Charles is ‘always on duty’, travel between his residences is regarded as official expenditure”.
Firstly, it’s news to us that there’s an airport named Clarence House and secondly, how on earth do these imbeciles expect these hardworking royals to travel? On foot?

Well said. The Royal Family is a major source of tourism revenue for the country.
There is no evidence royals are good for tourism and if the royals are “always on duty” why do whinge so when privacy is invaded.

The royal family are unaccountable, unelected, ridiculously expensive, idle, mediocre and Republic has got the measure of them. More power to Republic’s arm I say.

To charge £30k to the public purse when your private income exceeds 2 million a year provides grist to the mill for those who would de-emphasise the Royal Family. It shows rotten judgment on the part of those who advise the Prince

The article is based on fact and it doesn’t suggest they have an airport at Clarence House. Sloppy stuff guys.
Plainly you cannot read and plainly you don’t understand anything about the monarchy. They bring in more than they cost. Simple.

The Queen has always been there, in hard and good times. Her Majesty did her service during World War 2 as a Princess. During the British Empire days, we used to drink and toast “God save the Queen” intoxicated Esra Siebra would say “Why is she sick” Lady Khama wife of Botswana’s first President Sir Seretse Khama also had a lot of grace and style. The Royals are part of our proud tradition. Do these fools want John Prescott as our head of state instead. What ever they cost us, it is still a bargain.

You are entitled to believe they bring in more than they cost. However, you don’t know how much they cost do you ? Beside republic are questioning if Charles Windsor should be using public funds for private flights.
The Royal family (NOT the queen) have mastered the art of freeloading. They either sponge off their rich and often questionable acquaintances or ask the government to pay whilst all the way becoming richer. In just this instance the Steeple Times is wrong in my opinion and criticism correct and well deserved.
