God help us: They say we get the leaders we deserve and our Picture of the Week clearly shows what we’d be getting if we ever elect Nigel Farage as our Prime Minister.
The image shows a jubilant Farage outside his Kent home just as it was announced he’d become the UKIP candidate for Thanet South at next year’s elections. Behind him is a Volvo estate car on a block-paved driveway, a caravan locked inside a gated compound, a Leylandii hedge and semi detached cottage complete with a satellite dish and twee leaded light windows. Here, indeed, is a picture of what Britain sadly has become.
Tony Blair’s electoral success in 1997 was credited to having had attracted the vote of ‘Mondeo man’ and John Major before him focused on ‘white van man’. From this picture, it seems, Farage is a man who focuses on a very different kettle of fish.
The electorate should be warned. It’s time to move on from UKIP: Do we really want to become the land of ‘caravan man’?

Nigel is from my neck of the woods ” Where we call a spade a spade. He can’t really do any worse than Cameron, Brown and Blair have already done. The destruction of political correctness is by it self a valid reason to vote for him. We have nothing to lose…….
I hope UKIP stand a candidate in Rotherham. That would put a shot across the bows of “Stand by and do nothing man” which is a rather bigger problem than what kind of vehicle you take your recreation in.

too right Peter – do the media (the steeple times) really think we are so shallow and ignorant that we would vote for what car they drive and whether or not they have a caravan? It’s time to have someone with principles in government – not empty shirts.

And as to UKIP……….Nigel Farage is on the right track over pretty well everything; has the common touch and makes perfect sense to me
The only snag is that he may water down Conservative votes, thus allowing the unspeakable and scarcely intelligible Millipede to finally finish off Great Britain; this assumes the Scottish don’t find and press the self destruct button………but please don’t get me started
Child protection and safeguarding of children procedures and policies as administered by government agencies seems to be mere window dressings, the aims and principles of political correctness can overide child protection laws thus making them null and void. The sweep it under the carpet practice. Perhaps a politician can bring some light on this matter?
This photograph says exactly why ordinary English people connect with Farage.
He had a successful career in the City, yet gave it up to enter politics. He made no money and that could explain his rather modest home and his caravan.
What a change from pretentious politicians we have become so used to.
And just to remind the writer of this article….Margaret Thatcher also came from a modest suburban background.
Petty snobbery on this level is really rather sickening.
