Boris Johnson hosts Rupert Murdoch at the Olympics
The Daily Mail and other titles are in uproar today. It has been revealed that the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has invited Rupert Murdoch and his wife, Wendi Deng, to be his guests at the women’s 800m freestyle swimming finals of the Olympics this week.
Accused of “appalling judgement” by Jenny Jones, a Green Party member, further criticism came from Len Duvall, leader of the Labour group on the London Assembly, who stated:
“There are serious questions as to the appropriateness of Boris Johnson taking Mr Murdoch to the Olympics.”
I wholeheartedly disagree. Mr Murdoch, like or loathe him, happens to own what remain the most influential media outlets in this country. He is a man of influence and unlike Mr Cameron, Boris realises how to utilise both him and the power of the press.
Murdoch is an odious little twerp with no influence but plenty of effluence. This was a bad move by Boris. Let’s hope it stops him becoming leader of the Con party and, may the Lord forbid, Prime Minister…
Murdoch might be “odious” and a “twerp” according Ustay Igo, although I really do think these words are incorrect when describing a man such as Murdoch. Whilst not forgetting the blind management of his companies, accompanied by a total faux ignorance of his workforce, better words to employ might be ‘cathect’ and ‘avaricious’ in his search for world press domination. Hate him or not, he will leave a legacy that will no doubt surpass previous ‘Barons’ before him who perhaps were equally perverted, but fortunately for them never exposed! “Odious” and “twerp” might be better suited when describing for example a head waiter, as one such in his film – Holiday, as portrayed by the gifted Jacques Tattie. By the way Boris is very charismatic and is gifted with a super brain, so I would tend to trust his judgement, not for the shorterm but rather for the longterm whilst not forgetting that he is still a journalist!
First of all, a Green Party member will undoubtedly complain about a mega mogul like Murdoch.
“Appropriateness” is a very subjective point-of-view. Quite frankly, Jenny Jones sounds like an earthy-crunchy lesbian who burns the midnight oil with Len Duvall discussing these so-called Labour Laws while drinking cheap tea; when Murdoch/News Corp has created countless jobs to help add the grease that keeps the wheel turning.
Yes, Murdoch is eccentric (exuberant if you may) and has unique idiosyncrasies, but he certainly is no lummox. In fact, I can see The Steeple Times [TST] gaining tremendous momentum in the future…thus enabling prospective negotiations for TST to become part of the News Corp umbrella and the founder to remain full-throttle creative content control 🙂
Cheers and happy olympics!
