Burning the beret and burying the blue dress

As Monica Lewinsky speaks out, shouldn’t the world move on?

In the forthcoming edition of Vanity Fair, Monica Lewinsky candidly writes about her affair with President Clinton. For The Steeple Times news of this has seen a huge spike in traffic as interest in our “Where are they now?” on the world’s most famous intern has once again caused that feature to trend.

The forthcoming ‘Vanity Fair’ article by Monica Lewinsky: “Shame and Survival”

In the article, Lewinksy states:

“It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress… I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton. Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened”.

Lewinsky adds that she thinks that:

“[It is time to stop] tiptoeing around my past—and other people’s futures. I am determined to have a different ending to my story. I’ve decided, finally, to stick my head above the parapet so that I can take back my narrative and give a purpose to my past. (What this will cost me, I will soon find out.)”.

Monica Lewinsky – who also states that her current goal “is to get involved with efforts on behalf of victims of online humiliation and harassment and to start speaking on this topic in public forums” – deserves a break: The world has moved on since the tawdry events of 1995,1996 and 1997 and it is time that we allowed her to do the same.

The full story is available in Vanity Fair’s digital edition from tomorrow, 8th May, and in the print edition on 13th May.
