Britain’s Prime Minister needs to get a grip
Parliament is back in session and we’re now in September. The ‘Silly Season’ should be well and truly over but in fact we’re sinking into a quagmire that can only be described as ‘stupid’ and ‘irresponsible’.
On Tuesday, BBC executives and police officers were dragged into an inquiry headed by the once suspended MP Keith Vaz about a raid on the Christian pop star Cliff Richard’s home despite the investigation into allegations against him yet having been properly answered. Equally, one must ask, why has no one brought up what allegedly went on at the Elm Guest House in this context yet either?
Meanwhile in Spain, despite the incompetence of British police and our self-serving political classes, the parents of Ashya King have finally and thankfully been reunited with their desperately ill son. They should never have been separated from him in the first place and Hampshire Police ought to be brought to book for their reprehensible conduct.
Back home, last week, Scottish business titan Michele Mone spoke sense when she made the case in favour of Scotland remaining part of the UK. She was subjected to a disgraceful barrage of abuse from the trolls of Twitter. Now we are being told that police will be needed outside polling stations as there may be violence between ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ campaigners. This vote – funded by two EuroMillions winners – is going nowhere and is nothing other than a waste of time, resources and money.
Separately, the Scottish Liberal Democrat Sir Ming Campbell MP took to the television on Tuesday evening to say that “there will be a day of reckoning sometime soon” over the situation in the Middle East and Iraq and commented that “collateral damage is heading our way”. He is unfortunately right and we ignore this warning at our peril.
Where is David Cameron and where is our leadership? Instead of fussing over the distraction that is the ‘Caravan Man’ Nigel Farage, our Prime Minister needs to get a grip. David Cameron needs to once again seize control of the helm that once made Britain Great. He ignores it at the peril of us all.
