The People of 2018

The Steeple Times selects the best and worst people of the year past and the ones that’ll be missed

Today, as we wish our readers all the very best for the coming year, we announce the winners and losers of our People of 2018 awards. Here we recall the best, the worst and the ones that will be missed.

The winner of the best person of the year simply had to be Felicity Kendal for morphing from a much loved actress to a seasoned campaigner; the worst could only go to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex for her PR catastrophes and the most missed, for us, comes in the form of the eccentric farmer turned TV star Hannah Hauxwell.

  1. Well someone has been busy! A very comprehensive list. Emma Chambers death was a real shocker. Happy New Year to Steeple Times!

  2. Juncker is a ugly drunk. Were he running a public company he would be sent to rehab.
Only the EU could appoint the ex PM of UK county sized Luxembourg to run its affairs. Everything vile about the corrupt and mendacious EU is manifested in this lizard like man.

  3. I have a deep distrust of people who hang on the coattails of a famous ancestor and have such greed and lack of self control they under up looking like something out of Hogarth’s Gin St’.
Soames really is a useless piece of work

    • Hello, Pooter.
I wish you a very happy war on Christmas and hope to hear from you soon. I’m back at the Indy with new names but I’m sure you’ll find me

  4. Could not agree with you more Peter Wayde! Juncker is indeed paid in wine I suspect by the EU. Soames is a wet lettuce and not to be trusted.

  5. I agree with a lot on this list, but there are some I would have changed.
Scumbag of the year for me would be (Sir) Christopher Chope. Last year alone, he derailed bills on upskirting, Female Genital Mutilation, and attacks on service animals. The creep is one of the few people whom I’d say has no redeeming features whatsoever. His previous actions in Parliament also include cutting off a Hillsborough debate because he thought a debate on MPs’ pensions was more important, voting to take away £30 per week from cancer sufferers, but charging taxpayers over £800 for repairs to his sofa.

I’m afraid I’m not going to miss Leslie Grantham at all – a convicted murderer who shot dead a taxi driver whom he was trying to rob, but curiously was only sacked by the BBC after he was exposed (literally) taking part in a perverted webcam session.

I’m surprised you did not mention Anthony Bourdain. I was shocked and saddened when he took his life. I really appreciated his programmes for his down-to-earth, no-BS approach, and introducing us to cultures, cuisines, and perspectives from around the world.

  6. P.S. I should also mention Sir Roger Bannister who passed away in 2018. Not only did he run the first sub four-minute mile, but he went on to have a distinguished career as a neurologist.

He said the latter meant more to him than any sporting achievement.
