Prince Charles puts a Cornish quarry up for sale
In London, £40,000 to £50,000 won’t buy even a parking spot. In Cornwall, if the auction guide price is met, it’ll get you a former slate quarry with an engine house and 45.88 acres of land that is currently owned by Prince Charles’s Duchy of Cornwall.
Being marketed by Clive Emson auctioneers, the property, which is situated in the Trebarwith Valley near Tintagel, comes without planning permission but is described as having “the potential for a variety of uses”.
The “refurbished and preserved” Woolf engine house, which dates back to 1870, could potentially be converted into a residence and of the property, Katie Semmens of Clive Emson commented:
“This is a glorious spot for not a lot of money. We’ve had calls from some very interested parties. Plots with a real royal wow factor don’t come up every day. This could make a lovely home for the right person”.
Of why they’re selling, a Duchy of Cornwall spokesman added:
“This land is nowhere near any other Duchy land – it doesn’t fit – and has been leased to the [local council since 2011”.
Whilst the quarry itself was relatively unproductive and worked for only 20 years, whoever buys this lot on 18th September gets a further bonus. The property is named the Prince of Wales Quarry.
