RM Sotheby’s to auction 800 cars, motorcycles, boats and bicycles alongside automobilia in Milan
Between 25th and 27th of November, RM Sotheby’s will hold what they call their ‘Duemila Ruote’ sale at Fiera Milano, Milan. Over 800 lots will be offered as part of an auction that will be the “largest, automotive-themed private collection sale ever staged in Europe” and none will have reserves.
As well as a vintage fire service bicycle and vintage bobsleds, the sale also features BP, Ferrari and Goodyear signs and Alfa Romeo engines. Vehicles offered range from a 1992 Bentley Continental R to a 1942 Dodge WC-57 with G-518 “Ben Hur” trailer and a 1947 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport Touring Coupé Aerlux. Alongside a 1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth and a Stealth Selva Formula 1000 hydroplane, there’s also a 1991 Pontiac Trans Sport SE, a 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and a 1966 Jaguar E-Type S1 4.2 FHC.
The highlight of the sale is a Ferrari 275 GTB/6C. It is one of only nine cars originally fitted with alloy bodywork, six carburettors and torque tube.
Of the items offered, Augustin Sabatié-Garat commented:
“These are cars that buyers today want and are actively hunting for. The fact that so many of them are being exposed to the world again after many years in hiding sets the stage for one of the coolest and most exciting auction events of not only 2016, but in RM’s history”.
“The sheer size of the collection means that enthusiasts will be spoilt with variety. If you’re in the market for a Porsche 911, you’re in luck, with some 60 different examples offered without reserve. If a Jaguar E-Type needs to land in your garage, the sale will feature a selection of 21 different examples. The list goes on and encompasses a tremendously diverse range of categories… it’s like an automotive Aladdin’s Cave”.
