Churchill’s Last Billet

Last home of Sir Winston Churchill for sale for £22.9 million

For twenty years from 1945 until his death in 1965, Hyde Park Gate in Kensington was home to Sir Winston Churchill. 27 Hyde Park Gate, served as his office and now his former mid-19th century, yellow brick with slate roof residence, next door at number 28, is for sale for £22.9 million ($28 million or €25.3 million).

Featuring 5,763 square feet of accommodation over four floors, the wide family home includes seven bedrooms and a drawing room that has doors onto a 55-foot long garden. It is decorated in what can only be described as an eccentric style and has a total of four reception rooms, five bathrooms and a wine cellar.

Of the house, which also comes with a a Greater London Council Blue Plaque, James Gow of selling agents Strutt & Parker told LLNYC’s Liz Lucking:

“This is one of the most historically significant homes currently for sale in prime central London. It’s a very special house”.
