The life and legacy of Dr David Livingstone
Dr David Livingstone is someone who most will remember from their school days. This Scottish explorer and missionary undoubtedly featured on your curriculum and with the publication of a new book on his life by a New Zealander named Paul Bayly, there is now opportunity to learn more about the man behind the legend.
A small cocktail party was hosted last night at Gieves & Hawkes on Savile Row last night to celebrate the publication of Bayly’s book and next Tuesday, he will speak about it in more detail at the Royal Geographical Society. Those who braved the rain and TfL strike to attend yesterday were enthralled by Bayly’s passion for his subject and it was a pleasure to hear his insightful commentary on Livingstone’s ability to go missing for years at a time.
Livingstone once stated: “If you have men who will only come if they know there is a good road, I don’t want them. I want men who will come if there is no road at all”. Someone should have told that to Bob Crow.
