1951 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn coupé by Pininfarina that inspired the design of the current Wraith model heads to auction
A one-off 1951 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn coupé by Pininfarina was the most expensive car in the world when built in 1951 and more recently it inspired the design of the company’s popular Wraith model. The vehicle is due to be auctioned at The Salon Privé sale by Silverstone Auctions on the 4th September.
Created from a surplus chassis and designed by the renowned coachbuilders Pininfarina for their client Signor Luigi Bressani of Milan, this stunning 4250cc sporting coupé has a “believed genuine” 5,179km on the clock and cost over £10,000 to make (the equivalent of £274,083 today). After being exhibited at the Torino Motor Show in April 1951, the vehicle disappeared until finally being rediscovered and purchased by the current vendor, Stewart Wilkie, from the original owner’s relatives.
The car has a guide price of a very reasonable £375,000 to £425,000.
