A Bentley turned into artwork celebrating British history goes to auction
A Bentley turned into a piece of artwork celebrating British history by Paul Karslake FRSA comes to auction on the 30th November through Historics at Brooklands at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey.
With a guide of just £10,000 to £15,000, the 1990 Bentley Mulsanne ‘S’ is named “The Empire” and has an odometer reading of 108,000 miles. Karslake – the brother of Jo Wood (ex-wife of Ronnie Wood) – purchased the car in 2012 and used it as a canvas to for a piece of artwork about what has made Britain great. Signed by him on the front door mirrors, it includes images of Queen Elizabeth II, the Virgin Atlantic space project, Sir Winston Churchill, the Battle of Britain, the Duke of Wellington and Admiral Nelson amongst others.
Karslake, who was tutored by the naturalist and artist Sir Peter Scott, is best known for his 1998 painting of Keith Richards. Seen by Johnny Depp at Richards’ home, it became the inspiration for his Pirates of the Caribbean character Captain Jack Sparrow.
The auction listing reports that the Bentley has been used as a “daily driver” and comes complete with a road fund licence valid until April 2014. It’s certainly one up from the Nissan Primera artwork car by Jane Radford that we featured back in August.

He has destroyed a perfectly fine motor vehicle. That’s why.
The artwork is indeed very individual. It will probably go for a lot more. Shall keep an eye on the results.
