Former multi-millionaire Brian O’Donnell fails in his latest attempt to recuse himself from proceedings relating to the repossession of his £6 million South Dublin home
At Dublin’s High Court on Thursday, one-time multi-millionaire solicitor and international property investor Brian O’Donnell asked a judge to recuse himself from hearing trespass proceedings him and his wife, Mary Pat in relation to the repossession of their £5.075 million home. Previously featured in The Steeple Times in regard to his former London home being on the market for £11 million, here is a man who a judge once described as being someone he “[he] could not regard as a frank, or even a wholly truthful, witness”.
Mr O’Donnell appeared in court on Thursday to attempt to argue that the judge’s wife was previously party to legal proceedings against the receiver, Tom Kavanagh, and because of comments he made during the O’Donnell’s children’s case last Tuesday. His application to recuse himself on this basis was refused.
Brian and Mary Pat O’Donnell – who jointly owe the Bank of Ireland £52 million have blockaded themselves in their Killiney, South Dublin residence since the High Court rejected an application by their children for an injunction to stop the repossession of the property – were visited by representatives of receivers at the property on Tuesday night. They pinned notices of trespass and a demand to vacate the house to the entrance gates and were met by representatives of the Land League anti-home repossession group.
In comments, Jeremy Beades of the Land League remarked that the O’Donnell residence was nothing other than a “simplistic, bog-standard house”. Referred to by some locals as ‘Dallas’, the property, Gorse Hill, is quite to the opposite and is, in fact, a large 6 bedroomed residence in 3.5 acres complete with a gym, sauna, snooker room, wine store, tennis court and swimming pool.
