Is it right to criticise David Cameron for taking a holiday?
This morning the Mail Online and others attacked David Cameron for “swanning off” for a holiday in Ibiza whilst the nation is “struggling” and the press claim “Britain is on high terror alert”.
Nadine Dorries MP rightly responded suggesting it was ludicrous that such a “ridiculous” story could be printed:
“I think Cameron could actually get back from Ibiza to London quicker than if he was in Cornwall”.
“I think he is entitled to a holiday, he’s entitled to be with his family. I actually want the Prime Minister to be refreshed, feeling happy because he’s had holiday time with his kids and his wife and come back and be a refreshed Prime Minister”.
Cameron cannot win. If he didn’t take a holiday, the media would label him a “stiff”. They did just that to Gordon Brown, who was photographed on a British beach in his suit. If on the other hand, he holidayed constantly, he and his wife would be pilloried and lambasted like the Blairs.
Ms Dorries (for once) is spot on. Get the PM a beer.

Well, of of course, Miss Dorries would support him on this….after all she took a rather long and well remunereated break(£50k) from her paid Parliamentary duties. Birds of a feather and all that….
It is not a question to the geographics of his break, but the appropriateness of taking it at a time of deep national
crisis over the rise of violent Islamism. What also militates against him his congratulatory visit to the intelligence services when so they so self evidently fell down on the job. Anyway, for all the usefullness he may as well stay on holiday permanantly.

What a load of press generated nonsense, aided by a few demented Labour MPs. Firstly, the tragic act of some deranged morons calling themselves Muslims was not essentially a major terrorist attack – although ridiculous shouty newspapers such as the Mail (aka a fascist comic), the Sun and others would have you believe the entire country is in imminent threat of a 9/11 scale atrocity. Secondly, the mother quoted had nothing to do with Woolwich and she can blame Blair for Iraq and her son, not Cameron. Thirdly, if Cameron cancelled everything, including a much deserved SHORT holiday,it would be playing straight into the Islamic morons’ hands.
Very well said Michael. A most reasonable response and a truly correct summary of the racist and bigotry that certain factions are encouraging. Woolwich was a tragic murder. It was not terrorism. The label is misunderstood.

There was no the suggestion this mother was connected to the murdered soldier. However, as a mother, whose son’s life was lost in Iraq, she had every right to comment on the Prime Minister’s absence from duty at a time when there was fear that the killing could have been a precursor to further violence. Demented morons they be…but so were the demented morons who bombed the underground a few years back. At that time there was every reason to believe that further outrages were planned.
Add to the mix the fact that Cameron had congratulated MI6 on a job badly done and one wonders who is actually running our benighted country. Small wonder Cameron has a reputation for not being particularly dynamic or on top of his briefs.
To describe the Mail as a fascist comic is just emotive and silly.
Cameron is rapidly equalling Major as the most ineffectual Conservative Prime Minister on record. His advisers might just have advised him that hopping off on holiday at a time like this showed a barely believable insouciance.
