Stuart Hall’s sentence doubled
Today, paedophile and former broadcaster Stuart Hall’s sentence was doubled to 30 months by judges at the Court of Appeal. We salute those who questioned his original sentence including even Harriet Harman MP, deputy leader of the Labour party.
Hall, 83, appeared at the court via video link and his QC, Crispin Aylett, on his behalf, argued that there was nothing wrong with the sentence imposed. Aylett told the court:
“If the object was to see this man punished, disgraced and financially ruined then all of that has been more than achieved”.
The Attorney General, Dominic Grieve, took an opposing view and argued that:
“The total sentence of 15 months’ imprisonment … failed adequately to reflect the gravity of the totality of the offences, and the public concern about offences of this nature”.
“Some of the sentences should have been made to run consecutively, so that the total sentence passed reflected the culpability of the offender, the harm caused and to deter others”.
After the verdict, Mr Grieve commented:
“I asked the court to consider the multiple offending by Stuart Hall over a prolonged period of time which involved numerous victims”.
“I also asked that the court take into account the breaches of trust in this case – Hall carried out some of these offences in places where the victims were entitled to feel safe, he used his celebrity status to invite them to attend the BBC, and he also displayed an element of planning and premeditation”.

Harriet Harman knows that the Care Services rendered by Her Majesty’s Prisons Services is superior to the Care ordinary law-abiding citizens receive in Nursing and Care Homes. Nurses and Prison Officers will wait hand and foot on him. Human Rights advocates within the Prison will ensure that he is comfortable and contented.
Career criminals will admit that they go to Her Majesty’s Prison for a well deserved break.

Even if it is a comfortable prison dwelling, imprisonment will be very hard for somebody like him and it is good news that his sentence is doubled . He is not a career criminal but he has committed heavy crimes for which he is still not paying a proportinate enough price.
