Kylie Minogue cheerfully attempts to lure “Brexit-weary” Brits to Australia as part of an advertising campaign
Australia may be sadly burning and its premier might have put his foot in the proverbial by shockingly heading off on holiday, but ‘Down Under’ they’re eternally cheerful it seems.
With news that the pint-sized, pint-pulling pop star Kylie Minogue has taken part in a new song promoting her home country to “lure Brexit-weary Britons” comes a moment of positivity this festive season.
Forming part of a £8 million (AUD$15 million, $10.4 million, €9.4 million or درهم38.1 million) tourism campaign by Tourism Australia promoting Australia to the UK, the three minute musical advertisement aired on British televisions features stanzas such as: “Negotiating tricky trade deals is a shocker/ But look there’s a quokka [“a type of marsupial]! / And that’s what you need.”
Aside from Minogue reprising her role as Charlene Robinson from Neighbours, others involved include the cricketer Shane Warne and the Olympian swimmer Ian Thorpe.
Minogue’s positivity shines through and yet again this brilliant lady has excelled herself.

“Is this appropriate at a sad time when people have lost their homes?” ask some. I say: “YES” – just like in the Blitz, one has to keep one’s pecker up. Thank you for brightening a little old lady’s Christmas with this lovely song.
Delightful — love Kylie
She’s fab and still looks great.
