It is entirely right that Lord Janner be forced to face the charges against him
Let’s get it into perspective: Lord Janner will never be properly punished even if the allegations against him are proven true but on Thursday the High Court were entirely right to uphold a ruling that he must attend a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday in relation to 22 charges spanning the 1960s to the 1980s.
Whilst Lord Boothby, Lord Brittan, Sir Edward Heath, Sir Cyril Smith and Sir Jimmy Savile were all allowed to die without having the allegations against them brought before courts of law, Janner must be dealt with in his lifetime. It is entirely possible that he will be cleared and that his lawyers have claimed forcing him to attend would be “barbaric, inhumane and uncivilised” is simply ridiculous. It is entirely right that he will now risk arrest if he does not show up.
If Lord Janner is innocent, he has nothing to fear. If he is guilty, may some form of justice be served.
