Gold cars appear to be all the rage with London’s visiting Arabs this season
They used to come only in August but now wealthy Arabs visit year round and with them come their exotically (and mostly appallingly ugly) personalised cars.
J. R. R. Tolkein once stated: “All that is gold does not glitter” but plainly this season Arabs have not taken that to heart as this is the colour that is all the rage with them. In Knightsbridge, a stretched Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen with over-sized tyres that was previously white now sports a gold wrap and with it comes an accompanying set of a Lamborghini (not pictured) and a Bentley. Such abominations can only be described as utterly tasteless and should be banished from our streets on reasons of good taste.

Not to be pedantic (Moi? Surely not) but let’s all remember the original which Tolkien adapted for his poem. “All that glisters is not gold” from “The Merchant Of Venice”. I don’t want all that time swotting in school to have been in vain.
We have no idea as whether you are a pedant, or not.
And while I’m in reply mode, on reflection, I think I’d rather see gold cars in the London streets than tattoo-covered chavs with tacky man-jewellery. Tattoo-covered chav girlfriends don’t work for me either.

Note – All the original editions of The Merchant of Venice, 1596, have the line as ‘All that glisters is not gold’. Sadly ‘Glister’ is usually replaced by ‘glitter’ in ( usually frightful ) modern renditions of the play. What this has to do with expensive cars racing round central London is probably not very material …..
