Jeremy Paxman on George Clooney’s new wife’s attempts to repatriate the Elgin Marbles
In this Sunday’s Telegraph, Jeremy Paxman examined Amal Alamuddin’s involvement in trying to repatriate the Elgin Marbles.
He concluded:
“[Some would argue] that no artefact should ever leave the land of its birth. But then, by that formulation, we’d be digging George Clooney out of his new home in the Thames Valley and sending him back to Kentucky”.
British ladies may wince at such a thought but Mr Paxman has a point; the new Mrs Clooney should leave the Elgin Marbles be.

The PR maven Charlotte Ellis commented on a distinctly glum looking Mrs Clooney as she attended her ‘Post Wedding’ Party: “Trouble in paradise? Hee hee! I told you George, you chose the wrong woman!!”
I agreed with Charlotte and I must admit, in my head I hear Nat King Cole singing “There may be trouble ahead ………… Let’s face the music and dance“.
