Celebrating the 2012 London Olympic Games
The Olympics have indeed brought chaos to London: Traffic has ground to a halt, terrorist plots loom large and the rich have fled the city for sunnier shores. Now, however, on the eve of the opening of the Games, I do believe we should embrace the spirit of the occasion with gusto.
My only interaction with the event to date has been to observe countless BMWs and officials whizzing around but I am told that tomorrow there will be a spectacular happening at the opening ceremony. Directed by Danny Boyle, there will supposedly be a staged stunt involving Daniel Craig and a stand-in for The Queen.
My friends Rex Leyland and Leo Mason are amongst those taking an active role in the proceedings. Leyland has volunteered as a marshal and Mason is one of the official photographers. Both will undoubtedly experience a truly historic experience.
We at The Steeple Times wish all involved great success. May the Games begin.
I was invited to the dress rehearsal on Monday evening. This is one show not to be missed by anybody and is quite an unbelievable spectacular. Think Cirque du Soleil but multiply by a thousand!!! It is also quite patriotic so have a pack of tissues to hand. I have just completed a week of being a London Ambassador at Heathrow T5 and it was extremely enlightening. Yesterday was the busiest day in the airports history with a little under 300,000 arriving passengers. I’m happy to report that there were no reported problems with all flights arriving early or on time and no delays in passport control or with baggage delivery. There was a town crier, brass bands, street artists all performing inside the terminal to welcome arriving passengers. However, my gong goes to two London lads who arrived riding their bikes on to the concourse, having assembled them in the baggage hall and when they saw me asked me where the London cycle lane started outside the terminal, to which I took them, and could I arrange for the disposal of their packing cases which also I duly did – cheeky buggers!!!! They had arrived from Istanbul on a BA flight with their satchels, returning in time for the games. Let the Olympics commence and enjoy the atmosphere as it won’t happen again in our lifetime. Plan your transport carefully and don’t go to any stadia, especially Stratford, unless have you tickets or are collecting. Have fun one and all.
