Despite tweeting just twice, Dublin born actor Aidan Turner has over 21,000 followers on Twitter. A graduate of The Gaiety School of Acting, Turner is best known for his role as Kíli in The Hobbit and as Ross Poldark in the 2015 BBC adaptation of The Poldark Novels. “A new Colin Firth” in terms of being a heartthrob, Aidan Turner has stated that he would love to play Napoleon and the Irish boxer Barry McGuigan but admits he’s “probably too tall”.
I enjoyed the first episode very much. Very dark and very brooding. He is a good actor. Not great – yet – but he has potential.
Aidan Turner has never tweeted. The @AidanTurner twitter is not his personal account, he’s never tweeted from it, he’s never been on it. @AidanTurner was setup by his reps to deter people from faking accounts in Aidan’s name. But because CAM-UK tweeted a message saying “Vote for me” instead of “Vote for Aidan”, a number of fans think this is Aidan’s actual account. Other fans like myself just followed this twitter to show support. It’s kind of ironic. Aidan has repeatedly said he will “never” join any social media. He will “never” have a facebook or twitter account, but by CAM setting up this “hollow” account, a lot of fans think Aidan changed his mind. The sad part is that fans think they are sending messages to Aidan – and he’s not even aware of them or this twitter.
I imagined the @AidanTurner twitter account was just another fansite. But it is rather misleading. He was great as Ross Poldark though. I have loved Poldark novels and the original Seventies T. V series. Which I was determined not to watch before the new one came on. Recollecting the actors from the previous adaptation, Robin Ellis, Ralph Bates and so forth, I had no desire to criticise the newcomers. Aidan was perfect casting as Ross, which is a great compliment, as for me, Robin Ellis WAS Ross. While Helda Reed ( Elizabeth) reminded me of Jill Townsend. A great show. I’m sure we shall soon see Aidan amongst the A list actors.
