Twice a Labour Member of Parliament (1929 – 1931 and 1940 – 1955) and bizarrely sharing a Christian name with television’s Mrs Bucket, Dr Hyacinth Morgan was a doctor and Labour politician who was born in Grenada in the West Indies. His speeches in Parliament were notoriously short and he was renowned for making to the point remarks such as “The Hon. Member is entitled to give his opinion” and “They may also go in one’s favour”. Of eugenics, he once commented: “Some when inebriated see beetles… The eugenist, intoxicated, sees defectives”.
Surely his Christian name was actually Bouquet.
Ah Ah Ah! Nice one.
I’ve never heard of a man named Hyacinth before. What other names are used by both genders? There is an article for you. Hilary, Alex, Jack… There’s a start for you.
My mother was a classisist and wanted to name my brother Paris in 1946…this was overruled by my father like her desire to name her next son Rafael, which would have later raised eyebrows in various court rooms ….
Evelyn is another ‘ dual gender ‘ name as is Maria…these names are legion but intriguing. …
