Wacky Leeds born actor Geoffrey Bayldon was best known for playing Catweazle in the 1970s series of the same name as the Crowman in Worzel Gummidge. Bayldon also played ‘Q’ in Casino Royale in 1967, was gay, turned down the role of Dr Who twice thinking the series “too long” and enjoyed collecting watercolour paintings, gardening and walking.
I remember seeing this old nut on the King’s Road many times. He always made people laugh and smile. Geoffrey will be missed by many.
I would have love to have bumped in to him along the Kings Road, the guy was a legend, so many happy memories of him from the 70’s. RIP Geoffrey.
As a child I always found him creepy. But perhaps some of your regular readers actually knew him, and can disabuse me of my negative thoughts by telling me what a charming old soul he was.
Shame he never did Dr. Who. He was perfect AA catweazle and my son loved it too! Rest in peace Geoffrey.
Geoffrey Baldon as Catweazle made my childhood happier.
I remember sitting and watching him and dreaming of meeting him. God bless
