The co-creator of the BBC sitcoms ‘Allo ‘Allo! and Are You Being Served?, Essex born Jeremy Lloyd began his career as a road digger, light-bulb inspector and paint salesman. He briefly worked at Simpson of Piccadilly and based many of his characters on those he encountered there. Married four times, including for a brief five month period to Joanna Lumley, Lloyd was invited to the Los Angeles home of Roman Polanski and his wife Sharon Tate on 9th August 1969. He was very lucky to forget this appointment as that very night, Ms Tate and four others were killed in the house by followers of Charles Manson. In later years his life was far calmer and he was often to be spotted walking around Chelsea or driving his Rolls-Royce or Lotus.
I didn’t know that this funny man had such a lucky escape. I remember seeing him on the Kings Road myself.
What a life!! They don’t make them like this anymore.
