In spite of being born in 1925 in a castle in Austria, West London based mother of two Lotti Henley spends days feeding the homeless and destitute. Enthusiastic and dedicated to “caring for food,” this nonagenarian community heroin co-founded the Plan Zheroes charity in 2011 as part of her “vision of a world where no one will be living in food poverty.” A refugee and nurse herself in the Second World War, Henley was forced to suck stones to trick her stomach into thinking it was full and now her motto is: “Too blessed to be stressed and it’s true… I’ve never forgotten hunger… Do not waste food, pass it on to a charity geographically close… It doesn’t take an awful lot and it’s awfully fun… 39% of all in landfill is food and it’s all good food.” A truly wonderful lady working for a sadly ridiculously necessary cause.

Why has this amazing lady not been honoured? Theresa May and David Cameron’s cronies (including people like that awful woman you often feature here Lady Meyer CBE – whose ‘charity’ has thankfully now shut down) all got titles yet someone who feeds thousands of poor people is only lauded by the Mirror. Come on Mrs May: DO THE RIGHT THING.
Now this is more like it. I agree with Polly. I’d never heard of Lotti but she has survived war and turned her troubles to good. Inspirational.
Great choice. What a positive story.
What a beautiful story
There are some good people in the world and Lotti is definitely one of them.
Polly: Remember that Lady Meyer has a title not because of anything she has done other than be married to someone with a title.
Margaret: Lady Meyer was awarded an honour, a CBE in fact, in her own right. Sadly. Polly makes a valid point and Lotti Henley deserves that at least and more given she actually has done more than just something.
What a fantastic person, the world is just not a fair place.
She was born in Slovenia in Trebnik manor.
