The widow of Nelson Aldrich Rockefeller (1908 – 1979) is happy by name and happy by nature. A great-granddaughter of George Gordon Meade, the Union’s commander at the Battle of Gettysburg, twice married Happy Rockefeller is a mother of six and has been compared to the Duchess of Windsor when she was plain old Mrs Simpson. A leading philanthropist and breast cancer survivor, of her position within the Rockefeller dynasty, she told the New York Daily News in 1985: “I wasn’t born a Rockefeller. I just happened to marry one. I’ve had the best of both worlds. It’s like living on both sides of the tracks”.
In the words of the philosophical Irish mother Agnes Brown, “How nice for her” and a special mazel tov from me.
I’d give it one.
