Iranian-British businessman Lord Alliance courageously used his powerful contacts to help save the ‘Forgotten Jews’ of Ethiopia in the 1980s and 1990s. Born in Kashan, Iran, David Alliance moved to Manchester at the age of eighteen and co-founded the multi-billion pound Coats Viyella (now known as Coats PLC) textile empire. A leading philanthropist, a financial contributor to the Liberal Democrats and a collector of works by Lowry, Alliance once remarked: “What drives me is the desire to make an impact with everything I do”. He most certainly has.
