Judy Murray has good reason to smile
An interview with Andy Murray’s mother, the tennis coach and British Fed Cup team captain Judy Murray, appeared in the Evening Standard today. The focus of the article was on the fact she’s started to smile.
Ms Murray, a Scottish daughter of an optician and former footballer, told the paper:
“I could hear my heart beating in that final game. It was absolutely thudding. I tried to stay calm. I thought, ‘If he looks up and he sees me panicking that’s the last thing he needs’. And when I saw the ball going in the net, that he’d won, that was it. I was gone. I was so happy for him”.
Without doubt Andy Murray’s successful victory at Wimbledon on Sunday came about because of not just his determination but also that of his mum. She has been by his side throughout his career and though noted for grimacing in the past, Judy Murray’s smile just had to be our picture of the week.
