The Tout’s tips for The Derby and The Oaks
The Tout is feeling bullish after our success in The Guineas with Gallileo Gold and moves into Epsom with no fears about two wide open looking classics. Both The Investec Oaks on Friday 3rd June and The Investec Derby on Saturday 4th June could go to any of the runners and appear to be the most competitive in years.
In The Oaks, have a guaranteed each way knocking certainty with Skiffle trained by Godolphin representing great value at 13/2 and to win she has to overcome Minding who had a disappointing time of it in Ireland last time. Aiden O’Brien has half the runners in the field so Skiffle will have to hop and skip her way round most of these at the two furlong pole.
For The Derby, there are five horses with major chances but with the ease in the ground we are looking primarily at Wings Of Desire at 7/2, Deauville at 7/1, Cloth Of Stars at 13/2 and Moonlight Magic at 10/1. We have chosen to ignore the Newmarket talking horse, Ulysses, trained by a master in Sir Michael Stoute and owned by the Niarchos family at our peril but inexperience may tell here. Moonlight Magic is the value in the race but in the main keep the bet small and enjoy what will be a very exciting Derby Day up on Epsom Downs.
