The Tout’s tips for the Cheltenham Festival 2016
Finally, as we drag ourselves out of a very damp and miserable English winter bedraggled by storms and egotistical politicians we have a chance to take four days out of the miseries of Brexit and world crisis by celebrating a real festival and that is The Cheltenham Festival, one of the best attended and loved sporting occasions of the year.
The Tout reckons that you are probably better searching the handicaps for a bit of value but may have found a great each way double in the big races and the recommendation is to take Sprinter Sacre at 5/1 for The Champion Chase today, Wednesday, and then 8/1 for Smad Place in The Gold Cup on Friday. Alan King who trains the latter horse is on form and knows how to win races on this track whilst Nicky Henderson has Sprinter Scare better than ever and if that is the case he should win well.
One of The Tout’s greatest racing thrills and memories was of Dawn Run coming up this famous hills to the strains of an O’Sullevan commentary and it is scenes like this that make this one of the greatest shows on earth.
