The Tout’s tips for the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe
A glorious autumn season is upon us and having been blessed with a week of fine weather the going will be good at Longchamps for the smartest weekend in Paris and the only time the French bother to go racing in all their pomp and finery. It is however a little like Cheltenham with The Irish in that it is Les Anglais who invade in force both with support and horses and take Paris over for the weekend.
The Arc is worth €5,000,000 and the glory that is irreplaceable. This year may be historic as the brilliant mare Treve, trained by Criquette Head (of that genius French family) goes for her third Arc in a row and is favourite at 11/10 but this is no walkover as we suggest our Derby Winner Golden Horn together with Classic winner, Found trained by Aiden O’Brien, from Ireland with Free Eagle, the winner of The Prince of Wales Stakes Group One at Royal Asxot and trained by another master in Dermot Weld.
There are of course other runners but The Tout can only see these three high quality beasts being there at the finish. They are all great horses trained by great masters of their craft but one has a five pound advantage and that is the resurgent Frankie Dettori on board Golden Horn available at 5/1. If they don’t make it let’s hope that Treve can make history and go down as the greatest mare of all time.
