Mirror falls on former French Minister of Industrial Renewal at Balthazar in New York
On Friday at 10am, a large mirror fell on the head of Arnaud Montebourg, the former French Minister of Industrial Renewal, at New York restaurant Balthazar according to Town & Country magazine’s Emily Selter.
Mr Montebourg had been enjoying a late breakfast at the restaurant – the design of which is said to have been inspired by London’s La Brasserie – when the mirror crashed down, hit him on the head and left him and three others pinned underneath. He is said to have held “the huge mirror on his own until the other people came up and started helping him”. One witness, Sofia Mena from El Salvador, commented: “He was like Superman!”
According to an additional report in the New York Post, Montebourg is said to have “[sworn] a lot and said ‘It was f**king nightmare’ in French… He was surprisingly nonchalant but slightly pissed off”.
Mr Montebourg was subsequently taken to hospital and is “reportedly in stable condition”.
The offending mirror, which cracked but did not shatter, was removed shortly afterwards and lunch service went on without further incident.
