Martin the Poet

Martin the Poet“Dinky, danky, doodle, dee, I am a poet and so is she” goes his opening line. This Scot wanders the streets around Chelsea Green selling poems. “I am the magic man”, he often continues and “I could have sex with any woman I wanted” are amongst the other quotes he shares. “Dinky Danky” and his companion, who is generally perched atop of a shopping trolley full of empty beer cans, inject a little joy and laughter into the lives of those that they encounter.

  1. The Streets of London (Ralph Mctell)
Have you seen the old man
    Outside the Seamen’s mission
Memory fading with the medal ribbons that he wears
The rain cries a little pitty,
    For one more forgotten hero
and a world that does’nt care.
He still lives the dream, who knows he might have an abundance of undiscovered talent.
Who is going to give him a break, or even take him seriously? Life is very hard for some, expecially for those who suffer from depression and deprivation. Dreams are broken on a daily basis in London.
Sad but true. Spare the old man a thought.
